Structural biology plays a crucial role in understanding the intricate workings of biological molecules and their functions. In order to advance research in this field, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has embarked on an initiative to accelerate structural biology capabilities in Indonesia. As part of this initiative, BRIN is establishing a state-of-the-art Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) facility, equipped with cutting-edge instruments such as the Tundra, Talos, and Krios 300 kV. Cryo-EM has emerged as a transformative technique in structural biology, enabling scientists to visualize the three-dimensional structures of biomolecules with exceptional detail. By rapidly freezing samples in their native state, Cryo-EM preserves their structural integrity, allowing researchers to capture snapshots of biological molecules in near-native conditions. BRIN's investment in Cryo-EM facilities underscores its commitment to fostering breakthroughs in structural biology research within Indonesia.

Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) has emerged as a powerful technique in structural biology, allowing researchers to visualize biological macromolecules at near-atomic resolution. By rapidly freezing samples in their native state, Cryo-EM preserves their structural integrity, providing unprecedented insights into their three-dimensional structures. As Cryo-EM continues to revolutionize the field of structural biology, it is essential to provide training opportunities for researchers to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to harness its potential.

Within cryo-EM, Single-Particle Analysis (SPA) is a method that enables the determination of the 3D structure of biological macromolecules by analyzing individual particles, especially protein structure

This training program is designed for:

Undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students enrolled in relevant disciplines, including structural biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, biophysics, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and related fields.
Early-career researchers, lecturers, and scientists from universities, research institutions, and government research organizations who are conducting or planning research involving biological macromolecules and structural biology.

Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or related disciplines. Prior experience with Cryo-EM is not mandatory, although familiarity with protein purification, structural biology, or electron microscopy will be advantageous.

Applicants will be selected by the committee. Priority will be given to those who demonstrate a strong commitment to fully participate in the program.
