INTRODUCTION

To advance knowledge in various aspects of life, scientific works essentially serve to present truths through systematic, methodological, and consistent methods.

Taking advantage of the momentum of the Indonesia Research and Innovation Expo (InaRIE), cross-cultural collaboration has the opportunity to be organized in the form of developing international science and technology human resources competencies. Through the Competency Development Directorate, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will conduct training involving participants (international students) from various countries. This training facilitates the exchange of ideas, experiences, and different perspectives.

The training in question is scientific writing training. This training is not just about producing papers, but also about honing skills, training writers to think critically and comprehensively, and enabling them to develop new knowledge, as well as to communicate ideas, research findings, or solutions to specific problems to a wider audience.

Writing scientific papers is a mandatory requirement for graduation for students. This training is also designed to support talent scouting programs in the fields of research and innovation, a program managed by the Talent Management Directorate.

Instructors are researchers from BRIN in the fields of Science and Engineering.

After participating in this training, participants will be able to:

Explain the format and structure of scientific journal articles: Participants will learn the correct format and structure for scientific papers/journal articles, including the introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. This knowledge will help participants produce more organized works.
Explain Research Ethics: The training teaches research ethics, including how to correctly cite sources, avoid plagiarism, and respect copyright. This is important for maintaining academic integrity.
Write a draft of a scientific article: For researchers, scientific writing training helps prepare their work for publication in scientific journals. This skill facilitates the peer review process and increases the chances of publication.

The training will be conducted over 2 days in a blended format, facilitated by the Competency Development Directorate. The first day (10 August 2024) will utilize the BRILIANT LMS, while second day (11 August 2024) will be conducted in-person. To make the scientific writing training engaging for international students, the following concepts will be implemented:

Interactive Material Presentation: The training will provide participants with inspiring and interactive materials from reliable sources in the field of international scientific article writing.

Case Study Analysis: The training combines theory with practice. Participants will apply scientific writing concepts through case studies or direct exercises. They will be assigned to write a scientific article based on a specific topic, providing experience in the research writing process, including data collection, analysis, and article preparation.

Use of Technology: The training will utilize the BRILIANT LMS, an online platform or application developed by BRIN's Competency Development Directorate.

Individual Consultation Sessions: In addition to group training, individual consultation sessions with instructors can help participants receive specific feedback on their writing.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE FOR PARTICIPANTS

1. Prospective participants must fill out the registration link provided by the committee by July 31, 2024.

2. Prospective participants must submit a draft of the Introduction to their scientific paper through the registration link.

3. Prospective participants must attach a recommendation letter from their university to participate in the training.

4. If the number of registrants exceeds the class quota, the committee will conduct a selection process.

5. The announcement of selected training participants will be communicated via an official notification letter.

6. This training is free of charge.

7. The committee will only provide refreshments. Transportation and other expenses will be the responsibility of the participants.

8. Completion of the training will be evidenced by a certificate.
